Fix a declined RTI submission

Find out why your RTI filing or submission has been rejected and what you need to do to resubmit it.

  1. Go to Payroll, then click RTI Filings.

  2. Click the declined submission line.

  3. Read the declined reason outlined below the Reason heading, or you may need to click on the link Download HMRC Response for more information.

Fix the issue with your submission

Read the error information in the rejection reason and make the changes needed for resubmission.

Most of the messages are pretty simple. However, one common error message is Authentication Failure. The supplied user credentials failed validation for the requested service.

The issue here may be caused by an incorrect RTI submission user ID, or password, in your payroll settings. To fix this issue, you will need to reenter your user ID and password.

  1. Go to Settings, then click Payroll Settings.

  2. Click the HMRC tab.

  3. Under RTI Submission, re-enter your user ID and password.

  4. Resubmit your RTI submission.

  3. Click Resubmit.
