Add an account to your chart of accounts

Add an account if your chart of accounts doesn't have all the accounts your organisation needs. This page covers adding an account which is not a bank account, credit card account, or PayPal account.

  1. In the Settings menu, select General Settings.
  2. Under Reports, select Chart of Accounts.
  3. Click Add Account.
  4. Enter the components of your account.

  5. (Optional) Select Show on Dashboard Watchlist to display this account on your Xero Dashboard.
  6. (Optional) Select Show in Expense Claims to make the account available for expense claims.
  7. (Optional) Select Enable payments to this account if you want to record payments from this account.
  8. Click Save.
We recommend having no more than 699 accounts as this can affect performance.
