File your GST and provisional income tax return online

File your GST 101 (GST only) or GST 103 (GST and provisional income tax) return online with Inland Revenue direct from Xero. You'll need to pay GST and provisional income tax owing to Inland Revenue separately.

About filing GST online in Xero

  • Xero only sends data in the fields on the GST Return to Inland Revenue. Xero doesn't send underlying transaction information to Inland Revenue.
  • If you owe GST or provisional income tax to Inland Revenue, pay this separately. You can make a batch payment from Xero.
  • If you are owed a GST refund, you'll receive this outside Xero.
  • If you file a GST 103 return (GST and provisional income tax), and your organisation uses the ratio method for provisional income tax, you can complete your GST return in Xero but you'll need to file it outside Xero.

Before you start

  • You must have the Adviser, Standard + All Reports or Cashbook Client user role
  • You must be authorised to file a GST return on behalf of your organisation using your myIR account login from Inland Revenue
  • You'll need your myIR account login from Inland Revenue for your organisation

Choose your provisional income tax method

Select the provisional income tax method for your organisation so Xero knows which GST return type to generate.

The Inland Revenue will confirm what GST Return type your organisation is required to file. The GST 103 return includes Provisional Tax calculations.
