Why aren’t certain contacts listed as a search option?
You can’t search for archived contacts, so they won’t be displayed as a search option. Check whether the contact you're searching for is an active contact.
Why aren’t tracked inventory accounts listed as a search option?
You can’t search for or recode the account on transaction lines with tracked inventory (account type = inventory). However, transaction lines for sales invoices, sales credit notes, and receive money with tracked inventory will be displayed in the search results if they match other search conditions. You can recode the tax rate, contact, and tracking, but not the account, on transaction lines with tracked inventory.
Other account types you can't search for or recode include: Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Unpaid Expense Claims, Tracking Transfers, Bank Revaluations, Unrealized Currency Gains, and Bank Accounts.
Why can’t I find the transaction line I’m looking for?
Transaction lines created prior to a lock date won't be displayed in the search results, unless the lock date was set for all user roles except advisors. Check whether the transaction line you're searching for is subject to a lock date.
- Check that your search query is for the transaction total, not the line total. The search results will show both the transaction total and the line total, but the search query is on the transaction total only.
- Check that your search query is for the original transaction total. Even if transactions have credits or are partially paid, Xero will display the original transaction total in the search results.
What should I do when recoding results in an error?
When recoding results in an error on any given transaction line in a transaction, none of the transaction lines in that transaction will be recoded. We recommend that you edit the transaction manually.
Why wasn’t the contact recoded on an expense claim or expense claim receipt?
You can’t recode the contact on an expense claim or expense claim receipt. When you recode a group of transaction lines that include expense claims, expense claim transaction lines will be excluded from the contact recode, but accounts, tax rates, and tracking will be recoded normally.
Why wasn't my entire transaction recoded?
When you use the Find & Recode, you make changes to individual transaction lines, not the entire transaction. To recode an entire transaction, check that you've selected each of the transaction lines in the transaction in Find & Recode, or edit the single transaction directly.
I recoded an invoice, bill, or prepayment. Why wasn’t the corresponding credit note, prepayment allocation, or overpayment recoded?
When you recode an invoice, bill, or prepayment, the corresponding credit note, prepayment allocation, or overpayment is not automatically recoded and must be recoded separately. Only the transaction lines you select will be recoded, so we recommend you include search conditions for the associated transactions in your query.
I recoded an invoice or bill generated from a repeating invoice. Why wasn’t the invoice or bill template also recoded?
When you recode transaction lines an invoice or bill that has been generated by a repeating invoice or bill, the template won’t be affected by the recode. Edit the template directly if you’d like to update future invoices and bills.
Why aren’t certain accounts listed as a recoding option?
The following account types can't be edited and are excluded from Find & Recode: Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Unpaid Expense Claims, Tracking Transfers, Bank Revaluations, Unrealized Currency Gains, Bank Accounts, and Inventory (tracked inventory).
Why did the unit price change when I recoded the tax rate?
When recoding the tax rate, the line total will remain the same. The unit amount will change in proportion to the new tax amount.

Why was the manual tax adjustment on my invoice recoded?
When you recode any transaction lines with a manual tax adjustment, the manual tax rate will be overridden and recoded, just like any other tax rate.
I recoded a group of transaction lines incorrectly. How can I undo the recode?
Once you’ve recoded a transaction line, it can’t be undone. To revert the changes, recode the transaction line again or edit the individual transaction.
Why isn’t my recoding activity listed in the transaction’s History & Notes?
If the transaction wasn't recoded due to an error, the recoding activity won't be listed in the transaction’s History & Notes. Check whether the transaction was recoded correctly.
