Edit or delete column headings from your invoices and other documents

Customize a branding theme to edit or delete column headings on your invoices, credit notes, quotes, statements, purchase orders, receipts and remittance advices.

Read the rules for using custom (DOCX) templates for invoice branding before you customize your DOCX template.

Delete column headings from a standard branding theme

You can delete the description, price and amount column headings from a standard branding theme.

  1. In the Settings menu, select General Settings.
  2. Under Features, click Invoice Settings.
  3. Next to the standard theme you want to update, click Options then select Edit.

  4. Uncheck the Show column headings field.

  5. Click Save.

Delete column headings from a custom branding theme

You can delete any or all column headings from a custom (DOCX) branding theme.

  1. Click Settings, then select General Settings.
  2. Under Features, click Invoice Settings.
  3. Find the theme you want to change and click Download.
  4. Use Microsoft Word (or equivalent) to open the template you want to change from the ZIP file.
  5. Delete the headings and fields like you would in a normal Word document.
  6. Save the file to your computer.
  7. In Xero on the Invoice Settings screen, click Upload to upload your edited file and update the custom template.

Edit column headings on a custom branding theme

You can edit the column headings on a custom (DOCX) branding theme.

  1. Click Settings, then select General Settings.
  2. Under Features, click Invoice Settings.
  3. Find the theme you want to change and click Download.
  4. Use Microsoft Word (or equivalent) to open the template you want to change from the ZIP file.
  5. Type over the names of the column headings you want to change. Don't type over or remove headings that are field codes. For example, «InvoiceCurrency».

  6. Save the file to your computer.
  7. In Xero on the Invoice Settings screen, click Upload to upload your edited file and update the custom template.
