Import contacts into Xero

Import a list of contacts not already entered in Xero, and their details. Download our CSV template file, prepare and save the details, then import your file into Xero.

If you're making changes to many contacts already in Xero, see updating multiple contacts' details in one go.

Download CSV template file from Xero

  1. In the Contacts menu, select All Contacts.
  2. Click Import.
  3. Click Download template file.

Prepare and save data in the file

Open the file downloaded from Xero and enter your contacts' details.

The only information you must enter is each contact's name (and if you can, use English or the basic Roman alphabet. This will let you search for your contact throughout Xero). If you're importing more than 1,000 contacts, split up the file.

Other information is optional. But if you're importing any of the following columns, you'll need to format or enter the information correctly so we're able to import it.
