Set up tax details for payroll filing in Xero

Set up the month you'll start filing returns and making payments for salary and wage deductions to Inland Revenue.

If you've already processed a pay run, the Opening Balances Date is locked and set to the month the first pay run was processed in Xero.
  1. In the Settings menu, select General Settings.
  2. Under Features, click Payroll Settings.
  3. Under Payroll Filing, enter the following:
    • Employer Size.

      Visit the Inland Revenue website if you're not sure what size your organisation is.

    • Opening Balances Date.

      This is the date that you'll start monthly reporting to Inland Revenue from Xero. The date is based on the payment date of your first pay run.

  4. Click Save.
