Transfer funds to your employees' bank accounts

Pay your employees in bulk using online banking.

Xero produces payment files so that you can make bulk online payments from ANZ, ASB, BNZ, Rabobank, Kiwibank, TSB Bank and Westpac accounts. If Xero doesn't list your bank, you'll need to pay your employees another way, for example with cash, a cheque or paid individually through your online banking.

Export payment file and import to your online bank

  1. On the Payroll menu, click Pay Runs.
  2. Click the posted pay run period to download the payment file.

    Xero doesn't include negative amounts in the payment file.

  3. Click Options and select Export Payment File.
  4. Save the file and import it to your online banking account.
If your payment file exports successfully from Xero but you receive an error message from your bank, contact them directly for assistance.

After your bank makes the payments, you'll need to code the transaction to the wages payable account you selected during setup.
