Foreign Currency Gains and Losses report

The Foreign Currency Gains and Losses report shows your accounts payable, accounts receivable and bank accounts revalued in your base currency, and your organisation's total foreign currency exposure for each currency. You'll need the Standard or Adviser user role to run this report.

Run the report

  1. In the Reports menu, select All Reports.
  2. Under Accounting, select Foreign Currency Gains and Losses.
  3. Select a date range, then click Update.
  4. Click Export, then select your an export option if you'd like to save the report.

View balances

The report displays active currencies for your organisation, split into 3 sections: accounts receivable, accounts payable, and bank accounts.

Click on the balances to drill down to the Realised Gains and Losses report and Unrealised Gains and Losses report.

Balance

Shows the balance of the account in the foreign currency.

Balance in base currency

Shows the balance of the account revalued in your base currency.

Realised Gain

The total of realised gains made as at the to date for the period for the currency.

Unrealised Gain

The total of unrealised gains made as at the to date for the period for the currency.

Realised Gain YTD

The total realised gain as at the report date less the total realised gain as at start of the financial year of the report date for the currency.

Unrealised Gain YTD

The total unrealised gain as at the report date less the total unrealised gain as at start of the financial year of the report date for the currency.

FX Exposure

The total amount of unrealised gain for the currency as at the date of the report.

The report footnotes show the figures that were converted into your base currency and the rate that was used. They also show where the rate was taken from (if it was an XE rate or if it was entered by a user).

Regardless of the date of a transaction, its amount will only be recorded against an account in your chart of accounts once it has been approved, i.e. sales invoices or bills that are awaiting payment. Spend and receive money transactions display immediately.
