We are working towards a version of Xero that is specific to the education sector. Until this becomes available use the free trial organisation or demo company for general education and teaching use.

Set up process

Use this framework to decide how you're going to teach with Xero. This will determine how you set up yourself (and your students).

2 options for student assignments

There are 2 options when using Xero for teaching. You’ll need to choose which option best suits your teaching assignment needs. Both options have time limits which are set by the software and cannot be changed.

We therefore suggest you teach Xero in a modular way. Completing one exercise before resetting and starting the next exercise or assessment.

  1. Demo company - Students use demo company (pre-populated with golf company data) for 28 days access before it is reset. This time frame is not able to be changed
  2. Trial organisation - Students use the free trial for 30 days access and set up their own company from a blank organisation. This time frame is not able to be changed.

Student assignments using the demo company

Ideal for student assignments that:

  • can be taught in modules of 28 days or less
  • require students to access data already entered in an organisation
  • don't require your students to set up an organisation from scratch
  • don't require you to check their data online

The demo company is already set up and has demo data in it. We reset the demo company every 28 days, so students lose any data they've entered after this time. You won't be able to share data or give user access to anyone else with the demo company. However, your students can export, print and email reports to you from the demo company to show assignment results.

Students can sign up for a free Xero account, then automatically access the demo company.

Student assignments using a trial organisation

Ideal for student assignments that:

  • take up to 30 days
  • require your students to experience setting up a business and entering data from scratch
